Overview
For many decades, Shimla has known for its rich British heritage, and hence attracts many foreign tourists from all over the world.
“You don’t stumble upon your heritage. It’s there, just waiting to be explored and shared.” With this thought, Himalayan Institute of Digital Arts Shimla organized “SHIMLA HERITAGE PHOTOWALK” on 06th March 2021.
The aim was to aware Shimla youth photographers, how Stories through Photos can be expressed by expertise.
How it went
The photo walk was structured around Shimla town. It started at The Ridge and ended at Vice Regal Lodge Shimla covering all the main Heritage sites like Gaiety Theater, Christ Church, Gorton Castle, State Museum, and many more. 25 participants and three mentors Miss Yogita Raj Sharma (freelance tour guide), Mr. Vineet Sharma (Freelance Photographer), and Mr. Varun Chaudhary (Outdoor Adventure Photographer) participated in this event. Interaction with professionals allowed all participants to enter into the practical discussion. There were experience and knowledge shared from key speakers Mr. Siddharth Pandey research scholar from Cambridge University and Mr. Ashutosh Shaktan Photojournalist & Documentary Photographer from Shimla itself they provided insights into the factors about photography involvement in the delivery and assessment of technical facts and the main barriers facing by today’s artist.
The workshop was a key activity for the Shimla youth artist as part of its cultural heritage that aims to empower learning, develop skills, and support opportunities for all within the budding artist within which they work.
Feedback from the participants was very positive – they saw great value in working with like-minded people from so many genres, the opportunity to network and to learn from one another, and the chance to explore ideas.
